I really am enjoying the focus that it is bringing to my training and diet. So far here are the habits that I have been focusing on for the last 2 months:

1. Fish oil and multi-vitamin daily…of course, I use the Essentials from Usana (best multi I can get my hands on) and for the fish oil, I have been using a combo of Usana’s Biomega and Carlson’s very finest liquid fish oil. Recommendations for fish oil is 1 gram of fish oil/ % body fat for the first 4-6 weeks and then cut dose in half.

2. Carb timing. This second habit focuses on earning your starchy carbs. Basically your body is more inclined to use these sugars to replenish your muscle glycogen stores than to store these sugars as fat. So the 3 hours window post workout is the best time to eat carbohydrates when fat loss or improved body composition is your main goal.

3. Protein with every meal. This one is easy for me. I start every day with a Usana chocolate Nutrimeal shake (protein/low glycemic carbs) and usually eat some type of lean meat or fish with evey meal. The goal here is to get 1 gram of protein/ 1 lb of body weight or lean body weight (depending on your goal).

4. Eat every 3-4 hours. This one is easy for me too since I have been on this schedule for several years now. Research is clear that 5-8 small meals a day is superior to eating 3 large meals. It keeps the metabolism running at high speed!

5. Eat until you are 80% full. This is a tough one for me since I tend to inhale my food versus slowly chewing every bite and enjoying the taste and textures. I’ve learned that a little hunger is a good thing, it reminds me that I am in a caloried deficit and that I need that deficit to trigger some fat loss. I’ve gotta slow down and eat with purpose!

6. Eat at least 6 servings of fruits and vegetables. This one is easy! I’m eating 5-6 meals a day and ech one has at least 1 vegtable serving or 1 fruit serving. Some people might find this challenging because they eat so much boxed and canned processed food. Fruits and vegetables have tons of fiber and healthy sugars that our bodies need. An increase in these foods have been shown to decrease cholesterol and blood pressure, it also lowers your risk for stroke, lung cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, eye disease and obesity!

7. Keep a journal. Keeping an accurate log of your intake is important for your own accountability. Research shows that the best predictor of weight loss throughout the first year is the number of food records kept per week. It’s a great eye opener for most dieters who claim to “not eat that much”. Keep a record and you might be suprised!

If your goal is fat loss, try implementing some of those habits into your day and see your energy increase and your fat decrease.

When my colleague, Dr. John Berardi, dropped me an email the other day letting me know about his new nutrition course, I admit I had some doubts.

Don’t get me wrong, I like JB and respect his work, but I was skeptical about the course itself. ‘Body Transformation with Precision Nutrition — in 8 Days’ — indeed. Eight days?

But I’ll read anything, and I’m always looking for new ways to approach and teach nutrition, so I decided to give it a look. And in the end, I really enjoyed it.

The course starts with three consecutive online questionnaires, which were cool – they get right to the point, highlighting your weaknesses and offering solutions. Even just reading the questions called attention to some of the areas I could improve upon, and I know this stuff.

Each lesson offers a concise, no-nonsense message, one that beginners and experts alike will benefit from hearing. John does a great job of putting aside the fads and getting down to the point. He makes no mistake about telling you exactly what will lead to failure, and what will lead to success.

John also does a great job of going beyond the actual food to talk about how to ensure you actually follow the plan. What good is a great diet if you don’t follow it?

And best of all, he tells you exactly what rules to follow, in no uncertain terms. His 10 Rules cover everything from what to eat to when to eat it. Very good stuff, which I didn’t expect in such a short course.

Now, nothing’s perfect and this course is no exception. My one gripe is that I wish there was a little more detail on meal plans, perhaps a recipe or two, or some examples. But in fairness, you can get a good idea from the rules and lessons, and JB covers meals and meal plans extensively in Precision Nutrition (his superb nutrition program, which I highly recommend). So it’s a small, forgivable gripe.

All in all, this is an excellent little course, and in eight days you’ll learn more about what really works nutritionally than most people do in a lifetime.

The bottom line is that if you’re not in the shape you want to be, and you want to learn how to turn things around with nutrition, I strongly recommend that you check the course out yourself. It’s available for free at www.PrecisionNutrition.com

Usana Nutritional Sciences has allowed me to promote a product that I trust and will help my clients get control of their carb addictions. SO…I approached one of my clients to see if she was up to the USANA 12 WEEK CHALLENGE. Her goals included losing 50 lbs! Her start date was Feb 10, 2009. To date she has lost 25 lbs in 9 weeks and she is half-way to her goal!!! I am so proud of her dedication and discipline! I’lll keep you updated on her progress.

If you want more information on what she is doing, go to http://claudiapramirez.usana.com and click on the weight loss tab.

As a Senior golfer improving my flexibility, mobility and range of motion is
the key to enjoying the game.

Your program has improved my physical ability in stabilizing my swing and
considerably improved my shoulder turn and ball striking. Not only has my game
improved but I feel better too.

My average score for the past two months has dropped 8 strokes, and if I could
